- Athletic Communications Assistant
Description
The University of West Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Athletic Communications Assistant. This is a full-time position within the Athletic Communications office, reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Communications. The selected candidate will be the primary contact for their assigned sports within the Athletic Department's 17 varsity athletic programs.
- Serve as the primary athletic communications contact for selected varsity sports, including game-day statistical coverage, media relations, website updates, feature writing, game recaps, award nominations, and historical record maintenance.
- Coordinate all aspects of athletic communications coverage for assigned sports, including home event operations, visiting media support, and NCAA/GSC reporting requirements.
- Act as the primary manager of rosters and schedules for assigned sport on uwaahtletics.com.
- Serve as a contributor to the department's social media presence through the @UWAAthletics accounts, developing and executing content strategies that engage current student-athletes, prospective students, alumni, and fans.
- Collaborate closely with the department's photographer, videographer, and content creators to produce social media graphics, videos, feature content, and promotional campaigns across multiple platforms.
- Supervise and mentor a team of graduate assistants, interns, and student employees.
- Coordinate with FloCollege and other broadcast partners to support live event streaming, promotional content, and broadcast-related communications.
- Maintain accurate statistical records and ensure compliance with NCAA, NESCAC, and institutional reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in sport management, graphic design, broadcasting, journalism, marketing, communications, or related field.
- Experience with being a primary or secondary contact for a varsity-level sport.
- Experience with social media platforms.
- Experience in graphic design.
- Experience with Statistical software (Genius, Presto, etc.)
- Experience with producing pre-game and post-game articles.
- Knowledge of current social and digital media trends and specifications.
- Ability to interpret and utilize brand standards.
- Interpersonal verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized and driven.
- Self-motivated.
- Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends, as needed.
- Ability and willingness to attend campus events.
- Some travel may be required.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Desired:
- Master’s Degree or other advanced education.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
